Beth Haskalah Study Groups

Shalom.

Beth Haskalah’s study groups help us explore being Jewish and being Humanistic.  We discuss a wide range of topics.  Individuals who wish to further explore and share with the group their findings are encouraged.

Beth Haskalah’s study group sessions will begin on Sunday, September 9

at 3 pm.   Our Sunday study groups will start this year with a further explanation of Humanistic Judaism.

Beth Haskalah’s first study group will be a focus on Humanistic Judaism  and some different aspects about our movement.  Besides celebrating our traditional Jewish holidays, being a Humanistic Jew involves a world view and an analysis of what it means to be a Jew.  The acceptance of being a Humanistic Jew helps us focus on the many social aspects of our lives.   With the situations in our world and especially in today’s Israel , this becomes more complicated.

We will not have a study group in October because it is at the same time as Yom Kippur.

A future study group (November) will go even more deeply into this complex situation as it touches American Jewish life.  The live of American Jews continue to undergo a transformation.  This particular transition was greatly affected by World War II and the Shoah.    Much of this transition to be discussed is actually related to American Jewish literature, both academic and popular.

I look forward to sharing this unique examination of Jewish culture, much of it happening during my lifetime.

I look forward to seeing you on Sunday, September 9th at 3 pm.

Please feel free to contact me if you need directions to its location .

Shalom, Barry Swan
